TEHRAN, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Sergei Pezechzian said in a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Amit Shahbaz on Thursday that the United States' continued perfidy during negotiations and the ceasefire phase highlights its true intention to abandon diplomatic means.
According to Iran's Mehr News Agency, Pezechzian and Shahbaz exchanged views on the latest regional situation, the Islamabad negotiations, and ceasefire-related matters. He expressed his appreciation for Pakistan's firm efforts to achieve peace and specifically thanked Shahbaz and Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Munir for their contributions.
Pezechzian pointed out that the United States has continued to exhibit perfidy, bullying, and unreasonable behavior during negotiations and the ceasefire phase. He emphasized that the US's continued provocative and illegal actions, such as the so-called maritime blockade, not only blatantly violate the ceasefire agreement but also contravene the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Such actions, along with the threatening rhetoric of US officials towards Iran, will only deepen doubts about the sincerity of the US in negotiations and further expose the US's true intention to repeat past mistakes and abandon diplomatic means.
Pezzichian said that Iran is committed to maintaining and enhancing relations with all its neighbors, including those on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf, on the basis of good neighborliness and mutual respect. He expressed hope that these countries would learn from recent experiences, strengthen regional peace and security through collective cooperation, and distance themselves from destructive interference by external powers, particularly the United States.
