On February 24, Toray announced that it would stop producing terephthalic acid (PTA) in Japan by 2026. This decision will reduce Japan's domestic PTA production capacity to zero. Toray's suspension of production is not only the result of the company's own strategic adjustment, but also reflects the profound changes in the global PTA industry. Against this background, my country, as the world's largest PTA producer and consumer, has attracted much attention for its current status and future direction.
In recent years, my country's PTA industry has achieved rapid development. By the end of 2024, my country's PTA production capacity has exceeded 85 million tons, accounting for 70% of the world's total production capacity. This achievement is due to my country's continued investment in technology research and development and industrial upgrading. For example, most of the PTA units put into production in my country in the past decade have adopted the internationally advanced INVISTA P8 technology, which has enabled my country's PTA industry to keep up with the international advanced level in technology.
