A senior official from the Vietnam Textile Industry Association said that textile and clothing exports may drop to $4-41 billion this year, and reach $44 billion in 2022.
There are signs of recovery starting from the second half of the year, with a 13.5% decrease in textile and clothing exports in the first nine months of 2022 compared to the 17% decrease in the first half of the year. VITAS officials predict that textile and clothing exports next year may be better than this year.
High inflation has caused consumers in Vietnam's largest export markets, such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, and South Korea, to tighten their spending, leading to a decline in exports in the industry.
Due to a lack of orders, many export-oriented clothing factories have either reduced their production scale or completely closed down.
